Welcome to Raysfield Infants’ School!

Our school
Raysfield Infants’ was opened in 1976. Situated on the same site as Raysfield Pre-school and Raysfield Junior School, Raysfield serves the local Chipping Sodbury and Yate areas.

The school is a two form entry with a capacity for 180 children. Each class has its own dedicated teacher who is supported by a teaching assistant for all or part of the time. Three of our teaching assistants have Higher Level qualifications with specialism’s in special needs, parent links and forest skills. We are also very lucky to have dedicated and highly effective Governors, supportive and caring parents and super children who think that “Raysfield school is great” (School Councillor).

Attendance is very good, children and parents understand the importance of being in school as much as possible, ‘each day missed is a missed day of learning’.

Visitors comment on the special feel of the school and we believe this to be in part due to the open plan design which facilitates team working and promotes a family atmosphere. Excellent resources and facilities contribute to a high quality learning environment, both indoors and outdoors.

Our ethos and values

We want learning to be fun, and for every child to do the very best they can. Our broad and balanced curriculum is planned creatively to incorporate  the highest academic expectations in reading, writing and mathematics with opportunities to develop those skills through all subjects, including the arts, history, geography, physical education and a modern foreign language.

In 2009 Ofsted recognised the excellent progress our children make and awarded us our second consecutive ‘outstanding’. “Children at Raysfield are happy; independence is encouraged and personal, social and emotional development is given high profile; children grow to know their strengths and this is both empowering and confidence building.”

More recent achievements include the Sing Up Gold Award, the Opal Gold play award and the Active Mark for physical activity.  We have ‘Healthy School’s Plus’ status which involves us in organising regular ‘Walk to School’ weeks organised jointly with our Junior School. Most recently we have achieved our Green Flag Award which recognises the school’s work raising the profile of saving energy and water, recycling and reusing within the school.

We are proud of the links we have made with other schools in the UK, Europe and Africa and believe this has been instrumental in developing an understanding of the wider world beyond Chipping Sodbury.

We want all our children to be caring individuals and successful learners who grow to have high aspirations for their future, we want children to be creative thinkers, communicators and problem solvers. At Raysfield we strive to ensure that each child achieves the very best they can!
